We begin with the raw materials needed and follow through with the required steps in order to manufacture the finished products. The steps include Blast furnaces for Iron Making, the Basic Oxygen Furnace for Steel Making, Ladle Metallurgy, Casting, Hot Rolling and Finishing Mills and more. This module can be utilized for instruction on the necessary steps needed for steel making.
Module 2: Safety and Health in the American Steel Industry.
This section includes an overview of health and safety in the American steel industry, and an introductory activity to help gather information on the major causes of health and safety problems in your facility.

Module 3: Hazards and Controls in the Steel Industry, Including Facility-Wide Hazards.
This section follows the Basic Steel Process and includes a listing of hazards associated with each step of the process. By clicking on these hazards, the user will find links to information from government agencies that regulate or research these hazards. The user will also find other training modules on these subjects.
Module 4: Understanding and Evaluating Workplace Change in Technologies and Work Organization in Basic Steel and Their Impacts on Workplace Health and Safety.
This section provides information and activities to assess the changes that have occurred (or are occurring) in your facility and how these changes can impact workplace health and safety.
This section addresses jobs in the basic steel industry that are done infrequently, that can carry a high risk of acute traumatic injury or fatality. It includes a resource handout and a Job Hazard Analysis form for non-routine tasks.
Module 6: Increasing the Effectiveness of Safety and Health Committees.
This section includes activities, questionnaires, review sheets and resource materials on safety and health committees and how to increase their effectiveness in identifying and controlling hazards.
