Cold Rolling

Hot bands are delivered to the cold rolling facility for further processing. The hot band is placed into a Pickler.

The Pickler receives the hot band. The pickling process chemically removes iron oxides (scale) by running the strip through a bath of hydrochloric acid.

The Tandem Mill receives the pickled hot band. The band is uncoiled and the strip is milled to reduce the steel thickness down to as little as .017 inches. The strip is compressed and recoiled.

The Annealing Heat Treatment Process restores the steel to its formability. The steel in its coiled state is placed in an atmosphere of hydrogen and nitrogen to prevent oxygen from causing rust during the heating. The range of heat is 1,100 F to 1,300 degrees and is applied for about two days.

The Temper Mill has three main functions. It gives stiffness back, a surface finish and improves the shape and flatness of the steel.

The Electro-galvanizing Line plates the steel with pure zinc required by the customer.
