The Hot Mill receives the slabs for rolling.If necessary, they must be heated to about 2,300 degrees F.By the time the strip leaves the roughing stands, it has cooled to about 1,900 degrees and is about 1.4 inches thick and 180 feet long. The steel is rolled into a Hot Band.
The Strip Finish receives the hot band coil of steel leaving the Hot Mill.
